Danube river Cruise

Danube River Cruise

The River Danube (or Donau to give the river the name by which it is known in most of the countries through which it flows) is western Europe's longest river and follows a 1,700-mile route from the Black Forest in Germany, through Austria, Slovakia, Hungary, Serbia, Bulgaria and Romania where it finally empties its mighty waters into the Black Sea.

VFB's Danube cruises concentrate exclusively on its western half. To the east, the River Danube remains much more of a working river and its banks are characterised by a landscape of wide flood-plains and the industrial heartlands of the former communist block.

West of the Hungarian capital, however, the "Blue Danube" flows through some of Europe's most stunning regions, passing en route vine-clad hills, deep forests and an ever-changing and beautiful landscape that is punctuated by a list of mediaeval towns and historic cities that reads like a historical Who's-Who: 12th-century Regensburg and Passau Melk with its celebrated Abbey and imperial Vienna, Bratislava and the twin cities of Buda and Pest (Budapest), which magnificently bear witness to their Habsburg glory days.
