Gîte Valentine is a 2-bedroomed cottage, sleeping 4 (+ baby), in the village of Montfort (Savoie), 9 km NE of Moûtiers, 35 km SE of Albertville (Michelin map: 523). VFB is delighted to have featured this property since 2007. Saturday arrival.
On the edge of a mountain hamlet, perched high above the Isère valley at 900 m, this property is a conversion of a 150-year-old priory and offers spectacular views across the Tarentaise towards the Maurienne range. Stone-built, on several levels, the property features period touches, which add real character, such as exposed beams, mantelpiece and vaulted bedroom ceilings, though the fittings and fixtures are of a good modern standard. There is a terrace (8m x 5m) with portable barbecue, well-exposed to the sun. On the first floor of the house, there is a small apartment occupied in high season only by its French owners. The village, surrounded by meadows and fruit trees, is a starting point for many waymarked walks. Most visitors simply relax, enjoying clear mountain air and glorious views, but only 9 km away and easy access via N90 is Moûtiers with its markets and cathedral and, within 50 kms, such splendid cols as the Col du Petit-St-Bernard, which leads via the beautiful Aosta valley into Italy. An appealing property in a privileged location. The friendly English representative owns the village Auberge (Chinese food) and will welcome all visitors.
Accommodation: Ground floor: Kitchen, dining room, living room, bathroom. First floor: 1 double-bedded room, 1 twin-bedded room.
Activities: Swimming pool (June-September) in La Léchère (16 km) and Brides (14 km). Water sports base (white water rafting, canoeing, canyoning and white water swimming) in Centron (10km). horse riding in St-Bon (15 km). Tennis and bicycle hire in Moûtiers.
