Facing east across Calvi bay, with the fortress commanding the entrance on one side and the backdrop of high mountains on the other, la Caravelle enjoys one of the best positions of any hotel in Calvi.
The stylish bedrooms are located between the main hotel and an independent single-storey building in the garden. Standard ground-floor rooms are fairly small, while superior rooms, on the first floor, are more spacious and enjoy sea views. All have been recently renovated and are equipped with TV, safe and hairdryer. Décor in the residents-only bar and restaurant is light and fresh, while outside there is a very pleasant terrace. Cuisine is largely traditional with a daily-changing menu, without choice.
IN THE AREA
Not to be missed is the remarkable drive down the west coast where the towering ochre-coloured mountains of les Calanche drop abruptly into the crystalline waters below. A trip on the little Micheline train to the scenic, mountainous interior is a must too.
