La Croix de Moustier is a 3-bedroomed cottage, sleeping 6 (+ baby), in the hamlet of Moustier, 1km from the village of Allemans-du-Dropt (Lot-et-Garonne), 8 km NW of Miramont-de-Guyenne, 10km SW of Eymet, 25km NNE of Marmande (Michelin map: 524). VFB is delighted to have featured this property since 1998. Saturday arrival.
This is a spacious, thoughtfully refurbished 19th-century cottage set in a large, secluded garden with swimming pool in a leafy neighbourhood. An attractive interior has been created here; original character is retained in quarry-tiled floors, exposed stone walls and beamed ceilings, whilst modern, comfortable furnishings ensure inviting accommodation. All equipment, fixtures and fittings are of a high standard, as is the bright American-style fitted kitchen. Outdoor living facilities are excellent with a large, partly covered terrace, enclosed well-kept garden (300m²) and a 10m50 x 5m pool (depth 1m - 2m30) all to the rear of the property. Set back from the Miramont to Duras road, traffic noise may be audible at busier times of the day but this should not detract from appeal of this comfortable, well-equipped holiday home. There is much to see and do in this lovely region which is renowned for its gastronomy; foie gras is the regional delicacy as well as the locally grown prunes and walnuts. The wonderful regional produce can be appreciated from the numerous markets and the local wine Pays de Duras can be sampled at the wealth of vineyards in the surrounding countryside. For those who wish to explore further there are the white-stone villages of Pays de Duras, the striking fortified château at Duras itself, and numerous fascinating bastides of the Guyenne. An easy-to-run family home, with excellent outdoor living facilities in a lovely rural area.
