La Maison Vercken is a 4-bedroomed cottage, sleeping 6 + 2 under 14 (+ baby), on the outskirts of the village of Fouesnant (Finistère), 15km S of Quimper, 8km W of Concarneau (Michelin map: 512). VFB is delighted to be featuring this property for the first time in 2010. Saturday arrival.

This building was constructed in 1920 by a doctor and bought by the current owners' great-grandparents. Formerly known as La Villa des Pommiers (the Apple Tree Villa), it has been entirely renovated and decorated in an imaginative and elegant style by the current owners. This large, stone-built property displays plenty of character and is comfortably furnished and equipped to an extremely high standard. Bathrooms and kitchen are completely new, and the whole house has been designed to suit the needs of a young family. Outside in the large, grassy garden is a shower - particularly useful after a walk to the nearby beach - and the outbuilding houses a wc, as well as laundry facilities. Children will enjoy the swings and slide in this fully-enclosed garden, bordered mostly by hedges, with a high degree of privacy, while adults may simply relax outside. The nearest neighbour is a small gîte, tucked into the front left-hand corner of the garden, which is not let through VFB and has its own separate garden and access. Within easy reach: the main village facilities, including restaurants and cider-tasting; the mediaeval walled town of  nearby Concarneau, one of France's biggest fishing ports; boat trips along the coast and to the Glénan archipelago; the regional capital, Quimper, an ancient settlement with a 13th-century cathedral, museums and festivals of Breton language and traditions.

Accommodation: Ground floor: 2 living rooms, dining room and kitchen. First floor: 1 double bedroom with en suite shower, 2 twin-bedded rooms, 1 bunk-bedded room, bathroom with shower attachment, wc. Garden: shower, outbuilding with wc. This property is particularly suited to indoor and out-of-season living, due to a higher than average level of comfort.

Activities: Beach at 800m. Swimming pool at Fouesnant (4km). Tennis at 900m. Golf at Bénodet (6km).

Services: Grocer and baker at 200m, pancake restaurant at 250m. Supermarket and restaurants at Fouesnant. Market at Fouesnant on Fridays. Markets (in summer season only) Tuesdays in Cap-Coz (7.5km) and Wednesdays in Beg-Meil (6.5km); evening markets in Fouesnant on Wednesdays in July and August.
