La Pastourelle is a 1-bedroomed cottage, sleeping 2 (+ baby), in countryside, 1 km outside the village of Lalbenque (Lot), 18km SSE of Cahors, between the rivers Tarn and Lot (Michelin map: 525). VFB is delighted to have featured this property since 1975. Saturday arrival.

A little detached cottage, over 100 years old, set by itself in a very peaceful and secluded location surrounded by 2 hectares of fields (with truffle oaks), characteristic countryside of the ‘Causses’ region of Quercy. The house, built of local stone, is situated within walking distance (under 1 mile) of the pleasant little village of Lalbenque but the nearest neighbour is a small ‘cabanne’ in a far corner of the grounds (approx. 70m) which the owners sometimes inhabit or let to holidaymakers during a few weeks of the summer and occasionally at weekends. This in no way interferes with the seclusion of LUG.46 where visitors can feel entirely on their own. In addition to the surrounding rocky grassland where one may walk freely, a paved terrace (approx. 8m x 2m50) and a pleasant grassy area (it does get dry in summer) are available. The simple interior of the cottage is a typical example of traditional local style, particularly in respect of the stone fireplace and the exposed stonework in the living-room and bedroom; this does not, perhaps, make for “cosiness” but the various regional antiques and curios which have been included in the décor contribute to the rustic appeal. Lalbenque, known as the Quercy black truffle capital, is situated right in the south of the lovely department of Lot (with good access via A20), just a short drive from one of the most beautiful stretches of the river Lot, wth boat trips past the towering cliffs of Bouziès; charming hill-perched St-Cirq Lapopie. Within easy reach of historic Cahors, scenic vineyards and, further east is Rouergue with splendid mediaeval towns like Villefranche, Cordes and Najac.

Accommodation comprises: Ground floor: kitchen/living room (with open fireplace), shower room, wc. First floor: 1 double-bedded room, cot.

Activities: Fishing and bathing in river Lot at 20km. Swimming-pool (open 1st July-31st August) and tennis in the village. Swimming-pool at Montpezat (20km). Horse riding (7km). All other activities, including boat trips, in Cahors.

Services: All shops and services in the village. Market on Saturday in Lalbenque and on Mondays at Caussade (25km), on Wednesdays and Saturdays at Cahors. Parking on the property.

Comments
“It would be all too easy to sit under the trees out here and do nothing else. But we have found the whole area a delight.” “How nice to have been able to have such a tranquil setting and yet to have been within easy walking distance of the village for supplies. Besides the scenery here, there is so much of interest to be explored in the villages and towns.” “Lalbenque is a real French rural community where everyone is so courteous and friendly.” “We think that it's our 12th year here at La Pastourelle – hope you enjoy this small house as much as we do.”
